About the Artist

My journey into the visual arts began with an early education in Art and Photography, which initially led me to a career in photographic design. From my studio, I created image-based designs that were sold through Tony Stone/Getty Images, used in advertising campaigns and collaborated with advertising agencies.

As life evolved with the arrival of my children, so did my creative expression. I turned to painting, drawn to the same boldness of colour that had captivated me in photography. This enduring love for vibrant colour has remained the driving force behind my work.

My exploration of painting began with oils, chosen for their rich, deep hues that beautifully conveyed the intensity I sought. Over time, I incorporated acrylics into my practice—another medium I enjoy for its versatility—often finishing pieces with touches of oil to enhance depth and vibrancy.

Much of my still-life work draws from my background in tabletop photography, which earned me a place in Royal Photographic Society exhibitions. As a painter, I’ve had the privilege of exhibiting and selling work internationally.

Some places and moments seem to hold a natural sense of calm, while others stir an energy—like wind-blown sand and sea spray along the shore, or the shifting colours left behind by the retreating tide. These contrasts often spark different emotions in me, and those emotions inspire my paintings.

I’m particularly drawn to the Mediterranean landscape—the quiet presence of olive and cypress trees, sunlit hillsides, and stretches of dry, open ground, often with the azur sea shimmering in the distance. These scenes offer a warmth and tranquility I try to recreate in my work.

In contrast, my travels—especially a memorable year touring South America—ignite a more vibrant, energetic response. The lush, bold colours of Brazil’s vegetation were especially moving. Plants like the Heliconia rostrata, with their angular shapes and vivid red and yellow blooms, have become recent subjects of fascination. I find their dramatic beauty utterly captivating and hope that comes through in my paintings.

Over time, I’ve passed through different forms of expression, each reflecting a particular moment or inspiration in my life. Through painting, I hope to share the emotional connections I’ve formed with the natural world—and invite others to experience the beauty and feeling these places evoke.
